The manual transmission was developed specifically for the GR Supra’s six-cylinder engine, designed to provide direct driver involvement and a pure sports car feel. 

It is a custom-built version of the ZF S6-53 transmission, which combines ZF parts with custom Toyota components. 

Toyota’s engineers focused on reducing weight by modifying the transmission housing and driveshaft, and removing non-essential parts like the acoustic package. 

The transmission features software for intelligent operation, including an auto rev-matching function that adjusts engine torque during upshifts and downshifts to ensure consistent performance. 

The transmission incorporates a new clutch with a larger diameter and reinforced diaphragm spring for a larger friction area and increased performance, capable of handling the engine’s high torque. 

The manual transmission features a shorter final drive ratio compared to the automatic, which helps with quicker starts and acceleration. 

The manual Supra’s center console layout is altered to make shifting easier and more comfortable for the driver.
